Webcasting of Tynwald rejected

E-mail Print PDF

Tynwald will be asked at its July sitting to receive a Report of the Management Committee and approve the recommendation to augment existing broadcasting proceedings with a 'listen again' (audio only) facility for a trial period of 12 months.

It will be offered via a 'modernised' Tynwald website and the Manx Radio website, the idea being to monitor uptake over the trial period and if successful to eventually upgrade to a video service i.e. webcasting.

PAG presented the idea of webcasting to the Management Committee almost three years ago - it's taken that long to consider the idea and, not unexpectedly, to reject it. 'We can't afford it' is the reason given in the Report.

Election of Chief Minister - NOW is the time for change!

E-mail Print PDF

ballottrapIn the House of Keys on 22nd June, Bill Malarkey will present his 'Election of Chief Minister Bill 2010' for Second Reading. MHKs will either approve or reject the principle of the Bill, not the detail.

The legislation is a significant measure as it removes the power to elect the leader of our nation away from the politicians and hands it over to the people.
