We have just received the following by email:
Dear Sir
As a long time resident of the Isle of Man I’ve only just come across the PAG website and I’ve spent some time reading the various articles and points of views. Subject to workload I’m interested in attending some of the public meetings in the future. In the meantime perhaps I could suggest a feature for your website.
The next election is not far away and I think it would be a good opportunity for PAG to help inform and remind the electorate how our political representatives have performed since their election to public office. 99% of the working population has regular performance appraisals at work so why shouldn't we share that pleasure. A short biography of each Member along with a review of how well they have fulfilled their election promises along with key quotes, and their actions on various votes and issues would be a great way for the public to see how our politicians have performed.
In the run up to the election it will be very easy for the seasoned politician to gloss over the past and promise a whole brave new world before slipping into a semi-retired stupor once elected. A feature like this could be a very useful guide not only for the public to cut through the spin and make an informed choice in the forthcoming election but also as a reminder to those elected that not everyone forgets their promises and actions. Equally those representatives who have performed well will no doubt shine as the list of their achievements on behalf of the Isle of Man will be noted by their name.
This feature should not in any way be used as an editorial to attack certain politicians; if the information is clear, concise and factual then those who deserve to be rebuked and rejected will no doubt hear it from their constituents when they come to canvass their doorstep. Those who deserve to be re-elected can be safe in the knowledge that their door-stepping will be a less fraught experience.
Yours
V.
