Duffy Petition

Mr Duffy submitted his Petition about what he sees as the appalling condition of IoM State Dental and Orthodontic Care after:

Witnessing a relative give up in despair and pay for expensive Private Orthodontic Dental Treatment after waiting 3½ years for the commencement of diagnosed and prescribed NHS Orthodontic treatment to begin. No NHS Waiting List for any treatment should be over 3 ½ years long.

  • His family was forced to “Go Private” for Dental Care due to a lack of State Dentists - like so many other IoM families. This was despite his own dentist preferring to stay in the State System, but being forced to Go Private due to lack of confidence in the management of the State Service.
  • Mr Duffy is concerned that forcing families to Go Private means that those on limited budgets have to weigh up the cost of private dental against paying food, rent and other vital family bills. As a result, the dental health of families on limited budgets must inevitably suffer.

Mr Duffy would like a Select Committee to examine why such a prosperous Island cannot offer its citizens a better State Dental Service.
