Ballagawne Bridge

On the Coast Road between Peel and Kirk Michael the Ballagawne Bridge over the disused railway line is in need of repair and this video shows the temporary supports keeping it in use. A member has advised that he keeps returning to view this short one minute video on Manxtube.

Every time I see this haunting video it makes me think of the state of the political system in Isle of Man - fine on the surface, but underneath all is not well with no real commitment to make fundamental and much needed changes. The redundant railway line reminds me how the past affects the present.

Playing it repeatedly transforms it into art gallery video installation. At the beginning it zooms in on cones and moveable barriers either side of a road. All seems perfectly normal but then the camera explores below the surface to reveal a former railway route passing under the road - note the background sounds.

The wooden substructure supporting Ballagawne Bridge is examined. Some of the screw supports are rusty. I ask myself if it wouldn't have been better to properly carry out the necessary fundamental repairs rather than this construct temporary wooden framework.

Finally a comment appears about the delay in bringing about improvement"

The video creator 'manksview' has posted a number of interesting videos showing the state of decay at various Island locations.
